Are peperomias toxic to cats?

Every Peperomia species the ASPCA lists — eleven of them — is non-toxic to cats, each on its own species-level entry reading "Non-Toxic to Dogs, Non-Toxic to Cats"; the ASPCA has no entry that covers the whole genus, and Pet Poison Helpline has no peperomia entry, so a peperomia not named on this page has no grade here.

IN THIS FAMILY: 11 × S0 SAFE

Peperomia is a large genus, and the ASPCA grades it one species at a time. Below: the full verdict page for the baby rubber plant (Peperomia obtusifolia), then the other ten species that have their own ASPCA entries — each marked with the entry it comes from.

FAQ

Is every peperomia safe for cats?

Every peperomia the ASPCA names is — eleven species, each on its own entry, all reading "Non-Toxic to Dogs, Non-Toxic to Cats." What the sources do not give is a genus-wide verdict: the ASPCA has no "Peperomia" entry, and Pet Poison Helpline has no peperomia page at all. We do not turn eleven species into a rule for the whole genus, so a peperomia missing from this page has no grade here yet. The most common one, the baby rubber plant, has a full verdict page.

Is a watermelon begonia a begonia?

No. The ASPCA files "Watermelon Begonia" as another name for Peperomia argyreia, the watermelon peperomia, and lists it as "Non-Toxic to Dogs, Non-Toxic to Cats." True begonias are a different genus with their own record: see our begonia verdict.
