FAQ

Why do the two palm entries use different scientific names?

The Christmas Palm entry prints Adonidia merrillii and the additional name Manila Palm. The Manila Palm entry prints Veitchia merrillii and the additional names Dwarf Royal Palm and Christmas Palm. NC State lists Veitchia merrillii as a previous name of Adonidia merrillii, with those same common names. Both entries are non-toxic to cats and dogs. This page does not grade other plants sold as royal palms. Check the scientific name on the tag.

Does the Christmas palm entry name a toxic principle?

No toxic-principles field and no clinical-signs field are on either entry. The Christmas Palm non-toxicity line reads "Non-Toxic to Dogs, Non-Toxic to Cats, Non-Toxic to Horses".
